About PicShifter

PicShifter is a small set of free tools for changing file formats: images between JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Hangul documents to PDF, phone photos of paper into clean scans, and photos into cut-outs with the background removed.

Why it exists

Most online converters ask you to upload your files to their servers. That is slow on mobile data and uncomfortable for personal photos or work documents. PicShifter does the conversion inside your browser instead, so files never leave your device.

How it works

When you open a tool, your browser downloads the conversion code from this site. Your files are read and converted by that code on your phone or computer, and the result is saved straight to your device.

Open-source software we use

PicShifter is built on these open-source projects, used under their licenses: pdf.js (Apache-2.0), heic2any (MIT), html2canvas (MIT), docx-preview (Apache-2.0), JSZip (MIT), SheetJS Community Edition (Apache-2.0), PPTXjs (MIT), jQuery (MIT), D3 (BSD-3-Clause), NVD3 (Apache-2.0), hwp.js (Apache-2.0), cfb (Apache-2.0), pako (MIT) and ONNX Runtime (MIT). Background removal uses the U2-Net model by Xuebin Qin et al. (Apache-2.0) and the “silueta” model distributed with rembg by Daniel Gatis (MIT). Thank you to their authors. The source code of this site is available on GitHub.
